Dharamshala, also known as the Scotland of India, is one of the hill station which was established by the British between 1815 and 1847. This is a hill station lying on the spur of the Dhauladhar range about 17 kms north- east of Kangra town. This hill station is wooded with oak and conifer trees and snow capped mountains enfold three sides of the town while the valley stretches in front. The snow line is perhaps more easily accessible at Dharamshala than at any other hill resort and it is possible to trek to snow point after an early morning's start. Dharamshala offers great variations in altitudes, temperature and character, due to which it is a favourite destination among various tourists. Since 1960, when it became a temporary headquarter of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Dharamshala has risen to international fame as "The Little Lhasa in India". Mcleodganj is 9 km from Dharamshala. The city of Dharamshala is divided into two different parts. One of the part is the Lower Dharamshala which consists of the Kotwali Bazaar and areas further down the valley. The other part is the Upper Dharamshala which comprises of the McLeodganj, Forsythe Ganj and surrounding areas.

It is a majestic sample of architecture, which was constructed by the royal family of Kangra and dates back to around 4th Century B.C. It is one of the oldest and also known to be the largest fort in the Himalayas in India. This ancient fort is located about 20 kilometres away from Dharamshala and has few temples that can be visited by passing through seven gates. A major tourist attraction at the Kangra Fort is the magnificent view of the Manjhi and Banganga rivers. 
It is also called as Bhagsu Falls and houses the famous Bhagsunath Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is a famous tourist attraction and also an important place for Hindu pilgrims.

You can also pick up some fresh mountain tea from here. The Kangra Valley in Himachal is known for its beautiful natural landscapes and the spectacular range of Dhauladhar. In the foothills of this region you will find India’s smallest tea region. 
This beautiful lake is set amidst lush green Deodar forests and located at an altitude of 1,775 metres and beauty emanate here in peaceful surroundings. It is located at a distance of 2 kilometres from McLeodganj Market, Dal Lake is just a walk away and also a major attraction for trekkers. One can also go by car or taxi. The lake is also known for a popular temple of Lord Shiva that’s located on its banks.
